Our Host

John Pienaar was the BBC’s Deputy Political Editor and presenter of the weekly Westminster round-up, Pienaar’s Politics on Radio 5 Live. A seasoned reporter, he sees his job as beating a path through the forest of Government spin, a role he maintains as Drivetime Presenter on Times Radio. Ever since his original, often controversial parliamentary sketch for The Independent, he has acted as tour guide and translator of goings-on in the Westminster village.

Kate has worked for local authorities and housing associations for over 30 years, most recently holding the position of CEO at Notting Hill Genesis. She focuses on building new homes, improving the existing portfolio, and providing excellent services for over 67,000 households. In December Kate received a CBE from HRH Princess Royal, a remarkable achievement testament to her commitment to delivering affordable homes and supporting communities throughout her career. Kate’s vast experience of affordable housing provision will be of great value to Stonebond as the business continues to expand in this area of work.

Stewart Baseley has been on the board of HBF since 2002 and has served as its Executive Chairman since 2006. After overseeing a strategic review of the organisation’s entire operation, he has positioned HBF as a highly respected and influential representative body. In addition to his duties for HBF Stewart is a non-executive board member of H+H in Denmark and is Chairman of Housebuilder Media Ltd and Troy Homes. He is also a consultant to Highlander Partners and a patron of the Children with Special Needs charity.

Jonathon is an eminent writer and campaigner on sustainable development. For the last 30 years, he has provided strategic advice to leading UK and international companies to deepen their understanding of today’s converging environmental and climate crises. Jonathon also has a focus on intergenerational justice, supporting young people in their activities around sustainable development issues. He is President of The Conservation Volunteers and is involved in the work of many other NGOs and groups. Jonathon was formerly Co-Chair of the Green Party and was awarded a CBE in January 2000 for his services to environmental protection.

Ben Derbyshire is Chair at HTA Design LLP, a design consultancy to the home building industry specialising in Creative Collaboration between its multidisciplinary team, clients, communities and other professionals.

He has built up broad-ranging expertise through involvement in much of HTA's work in regeneration, masterplanning, housing and mixed use design across all sectors. Ben is also a Commissioner at Historic England, a member of its London Advisory Committee, Historic Places Panel and High Street Heritage Action Zone Board. Historic England is the arms length Government agency responsible for preserving and enhancing the nation’s built and intangible heritage.

Who are the guests on the panel?

A riverting panel discussion between a range of fascinating and highly influential speakers. This includes, Kate Davies, Stewart Baseley and Sir Jonathon Porritt. Hosted by the well-known John Pienaar.

What are the timings for this event?

The event will start at 11:00 and finish at 15:00. For more detailed timings, please visit the event agenda above.

Where do I go to check in?

• When you arrive at The Gherkin, make your way to the host at the Reception Desk.
• Inform the host the name of the event you are attending at Searcy’s, the host will ask to see your ID (Driving License, Passport or Bank Card).
• The host will hand you a security pass in which you will make your way through security check – you will walk through a body scanner whilst your bags, electronic items as well as keys, money will go through the bag scanner.
• Once you have cleared security, the security officer will retrieve the security pass and can now make your way to the lifts (Group 2).
• On the keypad press level 34 which will instruct you which lift to take (A – F).
• You will then arrive on level 34 where a host will greet you and offer to take your jacket and bag – they will provide you with a cloakroom card to claim back your items at the end of the night.
• Now you can take the lifts next to the host desk up to level 39 where the event is taking place.

Are you booking travel for us?

Please arrange your own travel to and from the venue.

What parking arrangements are available at the venue?

• There is no parking available at The Gherkin.
• Closest public car park - NCP London Whitechapel High Street (10 minute walk)

What are the nearest tube/train stations to the venue?

Aldgate tube station – 5 minute walk
Liverpool Street train & tube station – 7 minute walk
Bank tube station – 8 minute walk

What is the dress code?

Business attire.

We will do our best to accommodate wherever possible, please provide all details on your RSVP.

Will there be food and drink at the event?

Yes, there will be a delicious range of light bites to enjoy on arrival and during the networking period after the panel discussion.

Can guests bring their team or other networking peers?

• We would like to accommodate everyone, however, we cannot guarantee this due to limited capacity at the venue.
• Please email us with your guest requests and we will do our best to accommodate you.
