To mark this year’s Remembrance Day and pay respect to our soldiers, both past and present, a spectacular display of poppies was unveiled at Stonebond’s development, The Crescent in Goffs Oak, on Friday 28th October. The beautiful poppies, made from recycled materials, were created by children from the local Rainbows group who were invited to The Crescent to plant their commemorative artwork. Joined by their Rainbow leader, Jane Banner, the emotive day was an incredible acknowledgement to the soldiers of Britain and the Commonwealth who dedicated their lives to protect us.
The poignant display can be found at the entrance of The Crescent for visitors to enjoy. Sixteen Rainbows curated the poppies by reusing plastic bottles, painting them and attaching them onto garden canes ready to be planted. Placed on the edge of the grassed area, the contrast of green and red has created a vibrant vision of colour with a clear mark of respect for the fallen.

We are delighted to have been able to host such an important event at The Crescent and as supporting the local community is always so important to us, this was the perfect opportunity to bring members of the local area together for a significant day of remembrance.”
Rainbow Leader, Jane Banner commented: “This has been a wonderful event and incredibly powerful in teaching the children the importance of Remembrance Day. The children have worked really hard to create these poppies and it was great to have the added element of using recycled materials. Whilst creating the poppies, we had some interesting conversations about why we mark Remembrance Day, what it means to us, the involvement of the Girl Guides during the war effort and whether anyone’s family members have served. Rainbows is all about learning by doing and this event has bought education, creativity and memory together for a lovely day of commemoration. It has also enabled us to complete a section of the badge we are working on this term called ”Poppy Fields.”
